Docs Inventory Manufacturing

Manufacturing

Record production runs that convert raw materials into finished goods.

List View

Go to Inventory → Manufacturing. Stat cards show Total entries, Total Cost, This Month count, and Average Cost. The list shows Number, Date, Reference, Narration, and Total Cost.

Creating a Manufacturing Entry

Click New Manufacturing and fill in:

Header

Field Description
Number Auto-generated
Date Production date (required)
Reference Optional batch or lot number
Narration Description of the production run (required)

Materials Consumed

Add one line per raw material or component consumed:

Column Description
Item Goods item consumed (required)
Location Inventory location items are taken from (required)
Quantity Quantity consumed
Unit Cost Filled automatically from weighted average cost

Finished Goods Produced

Add one line per finished item produced:

Column Description
Item Goods item produced (required)
Location Inventory location to receive the finished goods (required)
Quantity Quantity produced
Unit Cost Cost assigned to the finished good

Direct Costs (optional)

Add lines for overhead, labour, or other production costs charged directly:

Column Description
Credit Account GL account to credit (e.g., Wages Payable, Utilities Payable)
Amount Cost amount
Narration Cost description

Click Save to record the entry. Inventory and the ledger are updated immediately.

GL Impact

When a manufacturing entry is saved:

  • Reduces inventory of the input materials at their weighted average cost
  • Increases inventory of the finished goods at the assigned unit cost
  • Posts direct costs: debit to the finished good's inventory account, credit to the selected account

Using a Bill of Materials

If you have a Bill of Materials (BOM) set up for the finished good, select it from the BOM dropdown and enter the quantity to produce. Click Load from BOM to auto-fill all component lines and direct costs. You can still edit the lines before saving.

Notes

  • Only Goods-type items can be used on material and finished goods lines.
